Marvel and Mum was created by a 9-year-old boy.

The term "Marvel" is often affectionately used for children with additional needs, and our story began many years ago when our own little Marvel was just a toddler.

Like many children, he started life seemingly without any concerns. As he grew, however, we began to notice small signs that he was finding it difficult to process the world around him. At around 18 months old, we attended our first meeting with nursery. It would be the first of many over the years.

As first-time parents, we thought everything we were experiencing was perfectly normal. He was a happy, healthy, energetic little boy. But as time went on, it became clear that he needed additional support to get through each day at preschool.

Behind the scenes, we spent countless hours researching, learning and trying to understand how we could best help him. Over time, we became convinced he had autism, but obtaining the right support for a young child isn't a straightforward process.

​

Then came school.

School uniform introduced a whole new challenge. The clothes were itchy, scratchy and, for him, almost impossible to wear. This was when we truly began to understand the extent of his sensory needs.

​

As he grew older, our lives became a cycle of school meetings, doctors' appointments, school nurses, psychologists and discussions with the local authority about his education. Throughout it all, one daily battle remained constant—finding clothing he could comfortably wear.

We spent a small fortune buying clothes, desperately hoping to find something... anything... that wouldn't cause him distress.

Eventually, after years of appointments, assessments and endless waiting, we finally received the diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).

The emotions were overwhelming.

We finally had answers, and with them came the hope that he would receive the support he deserved to help him understand and navigate the world around him.

​

Little did we know, our journey was only just beginning.

Finding the right school brought another set of challenges. The world around him was simply too overwhelming—too many people, too much noise, from the hum of fluorescent lights to the ticking of a clock.

​

As time went on, his needs became clearer, and thankfully so did his ability to communicate them. Instead of becoming completely overwhelmed without understanding why, he slowly began telling us what was wrong.

​

By the age of seven, getting dressed was still one of the biggest challenges of every single day.

He would put on his clothes and start walking downstairs. A few steps later he'd become, as he wonderfully described it, "fidgetated"—a word we've never forgotten.

​

He'd begin squirming and complaining before suddenly pulling off his T-shirt and throwing it down the stairs. Moments later, his trousers would follow, and by the time he reached the bottom, he was completely undressed. He'd be sobbing, shaking uncontrollably with frustration, unable to explain what was wrong. Sometimes he couldn't even speak. Like so many times before, he'd run straight into Mum's arms for the comfort, reassurance and cuddle he so desperately needed.

Once he had calmed down, he'd explain.

The label scratched.

The stitching felt itchy.

The material wasn't soft enough.

So we'd remove the label. Try again.

Then another T-shirt.

Then another.

​

An hour later, after several outfit changes, we'd finally find something he could tolerate and he was ready to start his day.

Meanwhile, wardrobes filled with clothes he simply couldn't wear.

​

Eventually, after months of trial and error, we found one outfit that didn't cause distress. We washed and dried that same outfit day after day because it was the only thing he felt comfortable wearing.

​

As he approached his ninth birthday, clothing was still one of his biggest daily challenges. Although we'd finally found soft clothes he liked, there was one problem...

They were plain.

They lacked colour, personality and fun.

​

Our Marvel and his Mum spent months talking about how they could change that. Together they began personalising his favourite soft clothing, transforming plain garments into something exciting that he genuinely wanted to wear.

​

Then one day he asked a simple question that changed everything.

"Can we make clothes to help other children like me?"

That one question inspired Marvel and Mum.

​

Together, they created a business dedicated to producing soft, comfortable personalised clothing that children love to wear. Every garment is individually customised with the child's chosen design, colours and personality, while never compromising on comfort.

Today, every item we create is made with the same love, care and attention that went into making clothes for our own little Marvel.

Because every child deserves clothing that makes them feel comfortable, confident and proud to be exactly who they are.
